Start monitoring a domain
Add a domain, review discovery and choose what to monitor.
From a snapshot to monitoring
The free DNS scan is a one-time snapshot. Adding a domain in the app starts discovery: DNStracr reads DNS and suggests useful checks. Neither action automatically enables continuous monitoring.
A monitored resource is one hostname and record type, such as the MX records for dnstracr.com. Several mail servers or DNS sources still belong to that one resource.
- Sign in with your beta invitation and select the correct organization.
- Open Domains and add your registrable domain, without https:// or a page path.
- Wait for discovery, then open Suggestions. Review the proposed records and choose the monitors you want to enable.
- Review the rule, check interval, incident severity and notification settings. Wait for the first check before assessing health.
Example: protect incoming email
Choose an MX monitor for your domain. A presence rule checks that an MX answer exists at every configured source. It does not verify that email can actually be delivered. If mail must go to particular servers, configure expected values rather than assuming presence proves the configuration is correct.
No active monitors
This means coverage has not been enabled, or every monitor is paused. It is not a healthy result. Domain health summarizes active monitors; other discovered records are not implicitly monitored.
Discovery can be incomplete when a DNS query fails. Retry discovery and inspect the source error; a failed query is not proof that a record is absent.
